Evan sighed and put down her book. Still no leads.
To find out about the Onyx Dragons she needed to find out more about Freud. To find out more about Freud she'd need to read his scriptures. To read his scriptures... well there were a lot of them.
She sighed. She was just a farm girl.... how was she supposed to read all these scholarly articles. I mean sure she had gone to school but.... not the extensive and specialized education Freud must've received.
"I give up for now." She muttered. "Lets go Mir. We're taking a flight around town."
"Alright Master!" Mir sounded happy.
They walked out of their little house and Evan mounted her partner. "Lets go"
They cruised around town. Evan relished the feeling of the wind in her hair "Master, look!"
Evan looked down. It was a man, one with a scythe. "Yeah? What about him?"
"He has the same spirit as Aran and Thorn. And some parts of it are similar to the rest of the heroes too!"
"Huh? What does that mean?"
"It means... He's lost his memory and is from the time of the Black Mage."
"Another one?" Evan sighed. "But you're right. Maybe he knows something. Thorn definitely did."
So she swooped down and landed in front of the person. "Hi! I'm Evan, Dragon Master. Whatcha doing?"

Shadow sighed as he walked along, only recently arriving in Leafre from the Temple of Time, scratching his head a bit as he looked around. He dropped his head with a heavier sigh.
"This place is boring!" he shouted out, just before a girl would land in front of him. He'd let out a light gasp and step back, preparing his scythe for a moment until hearing the girl talk.
"Oh, uhm... Hello, Evan. I'm Shadow. And, just looking for somewhere to start.. Some way to remember my past life. What about you, do you normally jump out of the sky and scare people half to death?" he asked, mostly joking as he moved his scythe to hang over his shoulder again.
"And this is..?" he asked, pointing to the dragon with a curious look on his face, "One of your dragons, Dragon Master? Does it have a name?" he'd tease, a quiet chuckle afterward.

"Oh! This is Mir." Evan said. Mir blew fire. "And he's my only dragon. As far as I know, he's the only dragon of his kind around and therefore the only one with a contract."
"Well... I don't usually do that... but the point is you're special aren't you? Mir sensed something about you. You've lost your memory? Are older than you seem? Truth is, I'm looking for more information my predecessor, Freud, and where he hid the remaining Onyx Dragon eggs. You might know something, not the first time it had happened."
"If you're looking for a place to start, I could show you around Leafre. Not many humans live around here but there's a lot of Halflingers. Most humans around here are the nature type, even me I guess." She gave a nervous laugh. "Well lets go." She held out her hand for him to get onto Mir.
"Where are you coming from?" She asked.

He looked up to the dragon, tilting his head a bit "Hm... Something about it feels really... Familiar.." he said, before shrugging it off and turning his attention to Evan.
"I don't think that I'm special.. Sure I've lost my memory, but couldn't it have been some normal reasoning..?" he asked, before thinking a moment. He gave a slight nod as he'd take Evan's hand, to climb up onto Mir. "And that name, Freud.. I feel like I've heard it before.. Though, sadly I don't know anything about any dragon eggs, or anything of this world anymore, honestly.. But, you seem friendly enough, so I don't mind helping you out, since you're so willing to help me." he said in a friendly tone, looking around below a bit when they were in the air. "I, uh... Hmm... Well, where I came from on the ground was just outside the village.. But before that, I was in a structure that seemed to stand on the clouds. A temple, by the looks of it?" he explained the best he could, scratching his head with a nervous chuckle.

Evan's eyes widened and she gasped. "The temple of time! You were there? But very few people have the strength, not to mention the permission to go there."
She thought about how he was thinking about the things he thought about. "Well you're making more progress than Thorn. She just goes and destroys everything before even having anything familiar about something."
She hadn't had much contact with Thorn for some time though. She was kinda wondering how she was doing. Then looking down she saw the city among the leaves appear. "Look! Over there"
Mir swooped down and landed in front of Evan's house. "This is our place" Evan said. "Come visit me anytime. Where do you want to go first? We have a few shops and a library, although its not nearly as grand as the one in Orbis. There's also a training ground."
"What are you doing here anyways?" Evan asked. "You don't seem like the type to study the plants and wildlife here."

Shadow chuckled a bit at the mention of it, shrugging "Yeah, I suppose the temple of time... It would make sense I guess, since there was an old man called the Time Keeper there. Though, after talking to him, he sent me just outside of Leafre.. So I've been wandering around looking for some sort of sign as to what I should do... I've been thinking about becoming strong to protect the Halflingers of Leafre, and anyone eles that may need my help..." he said, in a quiet tone, like he was in thought.
"You have a very nice home, Evan." he said with a smile, "I'll be sure to remember my way around and come visit you when I can. Hmm... I think I should probably visit the library and have a look at a few books, see if I can find anything that might possibly be linked to my past.. And then I guess I'll go train the rest of the day, I won't get stronger otherwise, right?" he asked with a chuckle, "Would you care to help?

Evan beamed at the comment about her room. "Thanks! I try to keep it nice and tidy!"
"What do you want me to help me with?" Evan asked "The Library or the training?"
"If you're looking for information about the past, it'd be really hard to find." Evan said gloomily. "The Black Wings have destroyed almost all historical documents about that period. I know... I've been looking for any trace of where my predecessor hid away the remaining dragon eggs. But... no luck so far. After all I didn't grow up as a scholar. But... I think I can show you some books on generally how people lived back then. It might jog it"
"If it were the training, I'd be happy to oblige" Evan smiled. "I don't really like matches too much but if you want then we can spar a bit, its kinda hard to train otherwise in the higher levels, well aside from the usual. Want me to show you the library now?"

Shadow smiled softly and looked around a bit, more admiring than snooping.
"Whichever you don't mind helping me with. Though, I think that learning what I can about the past is more important right now." he said, still smiling. "We'll both eventually find what we need. We just have to keep looking until then, right?" he asked lightly, before motioning toward the door "So, how about showing me to the library and we'll do a little reading.. Then maybe after have a little spar. Could be fun." he chuckled, sounding a bit childish about it.
"Oh, right! You're more magically inclined than I am, so maybe you'd know something.. Is there anything you can tell me about this?" he'd ask, holding his scythe out to Evan, staff a faded metal, blade heavily rusted over, though still hard enough to be used as a weapon, oddly not the slightest bit brittle.

Evan grabbed the scythe. "Well... I dunno.... how long have you had this? it seems like it must've lain in the rain for eons for it to rust so much. You can't even tell its original colour. Whada you think Mir?"
Mir cocked his head. "Dunno...." he said "But there's a large amount of magic sealed within it. It has also been refined with magic many times but its not like modern scrolls or nebulites. There's something else... The staff is normal though, made out of metals that were abundant during ancient times."
Evan shook her head. "It looks normal only because its made of metal. I know for a fact that most of the staffs we used to make our farming equipment is made of wood, not metal"
Evan frowned. She tapped it to the ground. "Its surprisingly sturdy though. For something so rusty"
"Well then, what do you know about it?" Evan handed the scythe back to Shadow.

Shadow nodded a bit as the two talked over about the scythe, looking anxious while it was someone else's hands. When Evan handed it back, he took it a bit hastily and draped it over his shoulder "Well.. The only thing I know about the thing is that I woke up with it next to me. And considering that I was there alone, I assumed it was mine. And I feel some kind of connection to it.. It felt weird while you were holding it.." he said, before shrugging it off and turning his head.
"So, shall we head off to the library? I'd like to get to learning about the past, and hope that it really does help somehow. It would be really nice, to know about my past again.. You know?" he asked, smiling at Evan as he folded his arms over the staff of the scythe. "To not feel so empty.."

"I know how you feel." Evan smiled. "Mir and I share a soul. I almost never put down my wand because that's our solid connection. We still can feel emotions and rough messages without it though." The trio arrived at the library. "Well this is it!" she gestured around the large room. It was mostly filled with scrolls and leather bound books. It wasn't technologically and modernly advanced like Edelsteins and not an encyclopedia of knowledge and ancient texts like in Orbis (most of the books had been burned from the attack back in the war), but it was good enough. "I could probably fly you or get a ride for you to Orbis." Evan said. "It would take longer on Mir but you'd have to deal with Phantom and most of the other Heroes on the Lumiere. Actually the Lumiere is probably your best bet for information about the war."

Shadow walked around the library, looking through a few books and scrolls, only stopping on one in particular: The Legend of the Heroes.
"What do you mean most of the other Heroes? Are you one of the people from this book?" he'd as as he took the book and flipped through a few pages. "Heroes... That seems so familiar...." he said quietly, almost as if lost in thought.
"Ah... About that ride to Orbis... I'd like that very much, but.. Would you be coming along to?" he asked, sounding a bit shy about the question. "It's just that... You're one of the first people I've met, and I'd really not like to feel like I'm alone.. If that makes any sense." he chuckled.
"But, um... That's the only book that really caught my eye, and it turned out to be nothing, so.. I guess we can go wherever, and whenever?"

"Ok." Evan said. "I was planning to go with you anyways. It'll be fun! And researching is boring. Guess I'll call for the Lumiere then."
Evan pulled a giant red and gold card out of her pocket. It had the picture of a grand ship on it. She held it up to the sun and it disappeared.
They waited. "Well I'm not one of the heroes from centuries ago." Evan said. "And since almost all documents related to the Black Mage were destroyed, almost nobody remembers them anymore. I am the successor of Freud, the one who died. The other 4 heroes survived though. Ah look! It's here."
The ship in the card was descending down on them. A rope ladder dropped down and Evan started going up. She turned back.
"This is Phantom's ship, he's one of the heroes of the legends,he's been trying to protect the information not destroyed. Comon. Let's go!"

Shadow tapped his chin in thought as Evan held up the card, holding his scythe close to himself as they waited. "I get such a familiar feeling when you say that name." he said lightly, turning to look at the ship. His eyes widened at the sight of the flying vessel, before watching as Evan climbed the rope ladder. He followed shortly afterward, hugging his scythe as he looked around slowly. "So, what can you tell me about this Phantom before I meet him myself? Also.. I know you don't know much, but what do you know about Freud? His name is so familiar to me, maybe it could trigger something to hear more, you think?" he'd ask, politely as he nervously fiddled with his scythe and clothes. Truth be told, he wasn't comfortable with being airborne, but he wouldd just suck it up and try to enjoy Evan's company.

"Phantom is a lady's man" Evan snorted. "Keep away from him." Although truthfully, she'd kinda fallen for him herself... maybe that was the reason she told him to stay away. "But he has a good heart... i guess.. even if he is a thief in more ways than one."
"Freud was... as far as I can tell from what the others have told me he was a scholar that stumbled upon the Onyx dragons. He shared his soul with the King of the Dragons, Alfien, we can visit him too if you want, and was the first and only Dragon Master besides me. He died during the fight against the black mage hundreds of years ago. He was an amazing mage and smart too. I don't even know why he, or Mir, picked me as his successor."
Mir sensed Evan's insecurity, she never felt like she could measure up to the other heroes "You are also an amazing mage. Master! You never had the eduation Freud had and yet you're able to read all his scriptures, you've only had a fraction of the time Mercedes did to train but yet you can beat her in a fight sometimes! You're amazing!"
Evan smiled. "Thanks Mir. I really appreciate that."
